Did anyone prepare us for this?

When my daughter asked,

“Mom, is it cheating if ChatGPT helps me with my homework?”
I didn’t have a parenting rulebook for that.

And when my son scrolled past AI-generated YouTube shorts, watched a digital therapist on TikTok, and asked,

“What’s real and what’s fake anymore?”
I realized...

We’re parenting in a world we weren’t raised in.

Hey, I’m Orngorn

I’m a certified professional coach and a single mom to two Gen Alpha humans — 13 and 10.
Also currently playing the roles of emotional translator, digital ethics guide, and bedtime negotiator.

I didn’t set out to become a parenting researcher.
I set out to survive.

But as my kids’ questions outpaced my answers, I turned to what I know best:
coaching, deep learning, and trial-by-real-life.

I tested tools, redesigned strategies, and created a system that works not just on paper — but at the dinner table.

Why the Old Playbook Doesn’t Work

When we were kids, “screen time” meant cartoons.
Now it means neural shaping via TikTok, ChatGPT, Snapchat, and algorithmic content.

And here's the kicker:
Most parenting frameworks still come from the 1980s–2000s.
That’s like trying to prep for space travel using a map of the London Underground.

Meanwhile…

The Data That Matters:

  • 39% of kids aged 5–8 use AI for schoolwork

  • 50%+ of teens spend 4+ hours online every day

  • 40% of parents say they don’t understand AI well enough to explain it
(Sources: Pew, Barna, Common Sense Media, CDC, 2024)

What We’re Really Dealing With

Gen Alpha isn’t just growing up with tech.
They’re forming identity through it.

  • Their beliefs are shaped by recommendation algorithms

  • Their attention spans are optimized for speed, not depth

  • Their learning tools think for them — but don’t teach thinking

This isn’t about fear.
It’s about clarity.

Quick Reflection:

What age were you when you first used the internet?

What did you learn — and how long did it take?

Compare that to your child’s tech exposure today.

What surprises you most?

Old Model vs. New Reality

Parenting Era

What it taught

Why it’s outdated

1.0 – Obedience

“Follow the rules.”

No space for self-regulation

2.0 – Achievement

“Grades = success.”

Ignores individuality

3.0 – Empathy

“Talk it out.”

Reactive, not future-facing

4.0 – Now

“Navigate ambiguity + AI”

Still being built — by us

We’re not just raising kids.
We’re raising humans in a hybrid world — part machine, all emotion.

What’s Worked in My House (So Far…)

As a coach, I don’t offer prescriptions.
I offer prompts.

As a mom, I’ve had to unlearn “control” and relearn trust with tech.

Here’s what’s shifted our home:

✅ “Screen time” → “Input time”
We don’t count hours — we evaluate meaning.

✅ Use AI together
We explore ChatGPT as partners. They learn to ask better, not rely blindly.

✅ Emotion check-ins after content

“How did that video make you feel?”
“What thoughts came up afterward?”

Their answers? Often deeper than mine.

✅ Tech agreements we co-create
Rules don’t stick. Ownership does.
